Pain and problems

Posted by Vicki on 02/09/2016

“When I first started [therapy] I was having severe pain on my right side. With the help of a great therapist I can truly say that my pain is no longer a problem. I’m able to pick up heavy objects and I even climbed the ladder up into the attic without any trouble.” – PR.

Pain is usually what brings a person into therapy, but often the root of the problem is hard to address while the pain is so intense. The goal in therapy is to get the pain under control so that we can actually solve the problem that led to the painful condition through stretching, strengthening, and endurance exercises. By the time the pain starts, the problem has usually been present for a while. It is easy to ignore the fact that you can’t pick up that item that you could pick up just a few short months ago, but it isn’t until you try to pick it up and it causes you pain for days after the fact that it becomes a problem.

If you are having pain now, it is your body’s way of telling you that there is something wrong. The longer you put off getting help for pain the more it will cost you in the end. Most surgeries can be prevented if you get help early on to correct the problem. Physical therapists are trained to look at movement patterns, check for restrictions and weaknesses to create a program that will correct the problems and resolve your pain.

Often the first response is to rest the painful area and then reach for medications that will mask the symptoms. Pain pills have so many bad side effects and most of the time don’t really relieve the pain, but rather simply knock the edge off your pain. The only resolution is to correct the problem from the source. Don’t delay getting help for your condition one more day! Call us today to get on the road to recovery.
