Fun in the Water

Access to pools is great during the summer. Pool exercises can be a great way to get exercise for those joints such as your lower back, hips and knees that would otherwise be painful to exercise on the land. A great way to help your lower back is to "hang" on a noodle or floatie in the deep end and allow your lower back to relax as you get the gentle effects of traction through the lower part of your spine. Running through the water in a depth at mid chest will strengthen your legs while not creating any strain on the joint. Bicycling in the deep end is good for the back and hips with no compression on the joints. Water is a great way to exercise with no strain on the joints. Remember to use your sun screen so your skin doesn't experience damage while protecting your joints!
