Learn more about ASTYM:

What is ASTYM?

astymASTYM is a manual therapy technique that uses acrylic tools on soft tissues. Astym is an evidence-based rehabilitation process designed to effectively treat chronic tendon disorders, scar tissue and fibrosis. The goal of Astym treatment is to stimulate the body’s healing response, resulting in the resorption and remodeling of scar tissue and the regeneration of degenerative tendons. This effective therapy incorporates a customized program of stretching and exercise, which positively influences the alignment of the new collagen.

How does ASTYM benefit patients?

  • Delivers long-term results

How effective is ASTYM?

Clinical outcomes from across the country indicate that 88% of all patients treated with Astym achieve improved function and decreased pain; even if the condition is chronic and previous treatment has been unsuccessful.

What should patients expect?

An Astym-certified clinician will use the instruments to treat not only painful areas, but also other problem
areas that may contribute to the condition. During treatment, you may feel areas that are “rough” or “bumpy.” These are the areas that need to be addressed.Over the course of treatment you will notice that as these rough areas smooth out, your pain will decrease and your function will increase

Patients should be informed that they will be receiving a treatment that will help stimulate a healing response rather than just treat their symptoms.  They may experience some soreness and/or mild bruising following treatments initially; however, this rapidly improves as the healing progresses. Patients are expected to carry out simple stretching exercises at home, and their compliance is essential for maximizing treatment results.

How is ASTYM different?
  • Astym is very effective in restoring movement and reducing pain from soft tissue injury or dysfunction.
  • It demonstrates success when other treatments have failed.
  • With Astym, patients often get better without surgery.
  • Astym provides excellent results with a small number of treatments; normal movement patterns are restored, pain is relieved, and the ability to do things returns.
  • Patients are very satisfied and enthused with the results they see from Astym.
  • Astym is scientifically based, supported by clinical research and extensive outcomes.
  • Patients stay active, workers stay on the job, and athletes stay in their sport during treatment.
Is ASTYM new?

No. Astym has been used in clinics by rehabilitation professionals for years. Physicians and Therapists
guided the clinical, scientific, and outcomes research used to develop Astym and document its remarkable effectiveness.

How can I receive ASTYM treatment?

You only need a prescription for physical therapy from your doctor. ASTYM is a manual therapy technique, so it is not billed differently than any other manual therapy, which means you do not need a separate script for ASTYM.

Also, you need your doctor to send your script to a clinic with an ASTYM provider. Currently, Regional PT is one of the few providers in a 50 mile radius.

Who provides ASTYM?

Regional Physical Therapy's three clinics Midwest City, South OKC, and Edmond provides ASTYM treatment.
